Why Asta is one of my favorite anime character ?
On one of my close friends recommendation, I started watching Black Clover (a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yūki Tabata). In no time it has become one of my favorite anime series. Obviously the plot and story is really awesome but the main reason is the character Asta, he is the main hero of the series and the thing that makes him awesome is he doesn’t posses any power.
To makes things easy to follow along, let me briefly provide a description of what the series beholds.
Plot
The series focuses on Asta, a young orphan who was raised from birth after being abandoned at an orphanage along with his fellow orphan, Yuno. While everyone is born with the ability to utilize Mana in the form of Magical Power, Asta is the only exception. He tries to gain magical power through physical training. Conversely, Yuno was born as a prodigy with immense magical power and the talent to control wind magic. Motivated by a desire to become the next Wizard King, an authority figure second to the king of Clover Kingdom, the two youths developed a friendly rivalry. Yuno obtains a legendary four-leaf grimoire held by the kingdom’s first Wizard King. Asta, despite his lack of magic, obtained the mysterious five-leaf grimoire (which cannot be clearly identified by others since it is worn out), which contains mysterious elf swords and rare anti-magic. Afterward, he and Yuno each join a Magic Knight squad as the first step to fulfill their ambitions.
So now that we have briefly covered the plot, there’s a lot that happens in the series. But coming to the main point again, why I like Asta a lot.
He Fights Against All Odds
From day one, Asta has been ridiculed for his lack of magical ability. Nobody had faith in him achieving his goal in becoming the Wizard King, and nobles and powerful mages constantly mock him for his lack of magic. Still, Asta ignores the discouraging voices around him and never hesitates in running into battle.
He Trains Every Day
He never skips his training and works really hard on physical abilities. His daily workout involves push ups, handstands and crunches. Because of his fit body, he gains an upper hand over his enemies and goes bang on against them.
He Inspires Everyone He Meets
Looking at Asta’s willpower to achieve the title of Wizard king and the spirit of never giving up gives people around him a lot of hope and makes them believe in themselves as well.
He Never Gives Up
Asta’s trademark catchphrase is “Not giving up is my magic!” This simple sentence is a mantra to the determined hero of the show, and he has proved time and time again that he will turn away from a fight.
What can we learn from him ?
If we try to instill the above attributes which Asta shows in the anime, each and everyone of us can achieve what we want in life. The trick is simple to keep going and take down any kind of obstacles or difficulties we face in our lives.
